Making a Difference

Have you ever been to Africa or another developing area, or seen pictures on television of the people who live there with extreme adversity and wondered how they do it? These are strong people, people who have been through a great deal of difficulty. It is hard to thrive and do well in an environment which treats you so harshly. And as a result of the harshness, for example the rife prominence of Malaria which is just a happenstance and very unhelpful property of Sub-Saharan Africa, it is virtually impossible to make the break throughs they need to improve their lives to a standard of living which we take for granted in the Western World.

You can though help make a difference to this. You can help put people on the road to success. One particularly helpful step you can take is to help people build and manage their own water and sanitation systems and manage their hygiene. This is one of the most effective steps you can take to help End Poverty. When you do this you provide them with a wealth of benefits, such as vastly improved health, leading to longer life, more economic productivity and better education, womens empowerment, leading to better quality and balance in the community and you give people more strength to help themselves into a better future. All these benefits are well established and documented in the largest international effort to End Poverty, the Millennium Development Goals.

You can support these people in a variety of ways, by spreading the word, holding events, reading up about it, and of course donating. You don’t have to donate at a distance though, you may be able to become involved further. So take your own steps to make a difference. We have a program which is raising money for a water, sanitation and hygiene program in Mali. You can support this by holding events for it to raise awareness and funds, you can donate, spread the word, encourage other people to help and read up and learn more about it to help in other ways. There is more information on this program on our website. See  Mali Program for more information, and if you’d like to donate, or read about the different ways you can support it, then see our Support Us page and have a read.

Please though, do donate. We aim to receive £25 per donation, but please give whatever you can. To donate, visit our donations page.
