Make A Difference

Here are some ideas for how you can make a difference;

  1. Read up about poverty and understand it more. For example read our About Poverty page to understand more about what causes poverty. Or read our Solutions page to understand what may solve poverty. Read about our Current project which is an example of where we are applying solutions to help people in poverty. Read our other pages. Furthermore, read up the sites listed on our links page, especially the publications on the Millennium Project page. All of this can give you the information you need to have the confidence and understanding to help fight poverty. For example, you will be able in more depth to talk to others about poverty and its issues, and encourage them to donate in fundraising, and you yourself will have the confidence in choosing what is the best way to donate to help those suffering from poverty.

  2. Fund-raise. Fund-raising is a method of raising finances for your chosen charity. You as a fundraiser of any level play a clearly key role in the future of your charity. The funds you supply help provide the material needs which are difficult to come across in other ways. There are various different ways of fundraising

    1. Personal

      1. You can register with 'Easy Fundraising' so that when you shop online, retailers pay a percentage to a charity of your choice. Just register and whenever you shop go to your retailer through the easy fundraising site. Many big retailers are listed. £30 pounds could provide water & sanitation to someone for 4 years. The money you raise, even from buying your insurance this way could be put to use to help those in need. Why not commit to this? It makes a difference to us and those in need.

      2. Have a look at the fundraising ideas produced by Child Line.

      3. Collect and auction unwanted goods.

      4. Do a sponsored walk

      5. For every pound you spend eating out, spend a pound helping the poor. A £30 meal could help around 5 people to clean water for a year.

    2. Community

      1. Run a sporting tournament.

      2. Hold a musical concert

      3. Have a sponsored curry night

    3. Corporate

      1. Are you or is anyone you know involved in a company? Perhaps you could campaign or network to get the company or the company community involved in fundraising.

    4. Major

      1. Do you or can you network to find influential people who may be able to help fundraise for your chosen charity?

  3. Network. Networking involves communicating with new people and those you already know. It helps you to act on old ideas and find new ones. Networking can be used to fundraise. One positive about networking is that you can influence people to network with other people, so that the network grows. How you network is up to you, but you might start by emailing, writing, or calling people you know and ask others to participate with you in making a difference. Making a difference might involve donating, fundraising, or further networking together as explained on this page. You could start by telling people about the foundation website, which would communicate with the other person who we are, what we do, how we do it, why we do it etc.

  4. Use our Foundation Leaflet. You can email or print and distribute our foundation leaflet. Why not use it to network with people by emailing it to them to have a look.

  5. Contact us or send us some feedback. Have your say in how we operate. Use this as an opportunity to have your input into the cause.  If you haven't donated already, it may be because you have some doubts, maybe about the cause, maybe about us. Why not try us and see if we can or already offer what it is your looking for. Or, if we don't already do it, then we might be able to do it in the future on your request. Also, by taking the time to help us help others you are really helping others. Use the foundation for community inspiration as a platform to begin your campaign to help those in need. Contacting us or sending us feedback is a great way to start off. Use the resources we already have at your own disposal. Why not tell us what you think we should do? There's a chance we will do it, and then you will have made a difference.

  6. Donate. By donating you are adding your voice to where you think money should be spent.
